Parent's guide

Where everything is in Foundations Faith Academy and how to get to it. Button and link names are in bold, just as they appear on screen.

Getting started

Your whole family uses one login. You, the parent, manage everything from the Family dashboard (the Dashboard button at the top of every page). Your children do their lessons in the Student view.

  1. On the dashboard, scroll to Add a student. Enter your child's first name, an optional birth year, and choose a grade program, then press Add student. We only store a first name and birth year.
  2. Your child's card asks whether they're at that grade in every subject. Choose Yes, start Grade N lessons, or Not quite, set levels to put a subject higher or lower (see Subject levels and days).
  3. Press Student view β†’ at the top of the dashboard, pick your child, and they're ready to start.

Every grade and elective starts with 10 free days, and Grade 1 is free all year. Full Access opens everything else; see Pricing.

Parent mode and your PIN

Because children share your login, anything a child shouldn't change or see is behind parent mode: answer keys, AI conversations, Settings, paperwork, and every change on the dashboard (subject levels, electives, the AI teacher switch, adding or removing a student).

  • To unlock: press πŸ”’ Unlock parent mode at the top of the dashboard and enter your parent PIN or account password. Logging in with your password unlocks it too.
  • While it's on: a πŸ”“ Parent mode on Β· Lock button shows at the top of every page, and lesson pages show a yellow β€œParent mode is on” note.
  • To lock: press Lock at the top of any page, πŸ”“ Lock parent mode on the dashboard, or Lock before handing back on a lesson page. It also locks itself after 30 minutes.
  • Set a PIN: a short number is quicker than your password. Go to Settings β†’ Parent PIN and answer keys, choose 4 to 8 digits, and press Save PIN.

Locked, the dashboard still shows each child's subjects, days and links to their lessons, report card and portfolio, so children can see their progress.

The school day

  • Press Student view β†’ on the dashboard (or Open today's lessons on a child's card). Use Switch student to change children.
  • Each subject shows today's lesson: a reading, then parts such as a worksheet, quiz, video or activity. Your child checks off each part. The bar across the top shows how many subjects are done today (you can turn it off or move it in Settings).
  • Books and library cards: some literature lessons from Grade 5 up assign a book that is still under copyright. Those lessons open with a πŸ“– Today's reading box that names the exact chapters and links to the free e-book or audiobook in the Libby app (you'll need a public library card, which most libraries give free) or to a copy you can buy. When a long book needs a head start, a πŸ“… Coming up box appears a week or two ahead.
  • Worksheets can be printed with Print this worksheet β†—. In parent mode, worksheets also show the answer key, with Print answer key β†—.
  • When every part is done, the subject shows Day N complete. Great work! The next day opens the following morning. If you turn on the Go to next day button in Settings, children can start the next day right away.

Subject levels and days

Each subject can be at any grade from Pre-K to 12, so a third grader can do Grade 2 reading and Grade 4 math. In parent mode, each subject on the dashboard has a grade tag (for example Grade 3 β–Ύ). Blue means above your child's grade; orange means below.

  1. Unlock parent mode and press the subject's grade tag.
  2. Under Level, pick a grade. Each one shows its first lesson, so you can see where it begins.
  3. Under Start at, choose to stay on the current day, pick up where your child left off, start at Day 1, start about halfway, or enter a specific day. This is also how you move a subject to a different day without changing its level.
  4. Read the summary, then press Save.

Finished lessons are always kept. When you switch a subject to another level, Foundations Faith Academy remembers the day your child was on, so switching back picks up there.

To set every subject at once, use Not quite, set levels on a new child's card. It shows each subject with βˆ’ and + buttons and a starting day; press Save levels when done.

With a pace guide turned on (see Family settings), each subject also shows whether it's ahead, on pace or behind. Only parents see this.

Electives

  • Unlock parent mode, then open + Add an elective on your child's card. Choose a subject (and, for subjects with levels such as Spanish, Art or Music, a level), then press Add.
  • To change a level, pick a new one and press Switch level. To stop an elective, press Remove next to it; your child's progress is kept if you add it again later.
  • Electives show up in the Student view alongside the grade subjects.

The AI teacher

  • The AI teacher answers questions in a chat beside the lessons and gives hints instead of answers on graded questions.
  • Read every conversation: unlock parent mode and press AI conversations on your child's card.
  • Turn it off for one child: unlock parent mode, open AI teacher: On on their card, uncheck Let [name] use the AI teacher, and press Save. The chat and the β€œTry asking your AI teacher” prompts disappear from their lessons.
  • Limit daily questions: Settings β†’ your child's name β†’ AI questions per day. Settings also shows how much of your family's monthly AI allowance is used.

Report cards, portfolio and transcripts

  • Report card on a child's card shows days of attendance, estimated hours, lessons completed, and each subject's progress and graded-work average. It prints neatly.
  • Portfolio lists every finished lesson part by subject, with dates and quiz scores, ready to print for a state review or evaluation.
  • For high schoolers, Transcript and Certificate appear on their card. High school courses earn credit when finished.

Homeschool paperwork

Press Homeschool paperwork at the top of the dashboard (parent mode required). Choose your state to see what its homeschool law asks for, and print a notice of intent, withdrawal letter, attendance record or course of study. What you type there stays in your browser. You can also read homeschool laws by state without logging in.

Family settings

Press Settings at the top of the dashboard (parent mode required). You'll find:

  • AI teacher usage for the month.
  • Parent PIN and answer keys: set or change your PIN, or lock parent mode.
  • Student view and pace guide: show or hide the daily checklist and choose where it sits, the Go to next day button, your time zone, and an optional pace guide (school start date, school days and days off).
  • Each child: AI questions per day, and a reading-friendly font for dyslexia support.

A few options live on each child's dashboard card instead (parent mode required):

  • Content settings lets you skip certain topics, such as the reproductive health unit, and any high school reading with mature content (for example The Kite Runner or Slaughterhouse-Five). Each switch says what the book contains and how many lessons it skips, and only switches for your child's own courses are shown.
  • Remove student takes a child off your dashboard after you type their name to confirm. Their records are kept, and support can restore them.

Getting help

Once you're logged in, the Help menu at the top of every page lets you report a problem with a lesson, leave feedback, request support, or email us. This guide is in that menu too.
